Reportedly nervous in the beginning, CSNY performed both acoustic and electric sets, including songs that would become band classics such as "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Wooden Ships," "Marrakesh Express," and "Long Time Gone." At such a high-profile event as Woodstock, CSNY triumphed in the view of writer Greil Marcus, who covered the festival for Rolling Stone: "They had the crowd all the way.Their performance was a scary brilliant proof of the magnificence of music, and I don't believe it could have happened with such power anywhere else." On August 18, 1969, the supergroup Crosby Stills Nash & Young appeared on stage at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in Bethel, New York in what was only the second time they had ever played together publicly.
